Blue is the colour associated with harmony. It is a natural colour when we think of a clear summer sky or a deep warm ocean. It is often chosen as everyone’s favourite colour and yet we use it to describe sadness. The shades range from pale pastel colours perhaps describes as “baby blue” to vivid jewel blue from gems such as sapphire, aquamarine and topaz. Often used to complement contemporary photography of oceans or skyscapes, blue mouldings may be edged with gold or silver, with finishes ranging from distressed (antique) look, high gloss, painted matt, and metallic. The colour also has military connections Navy, RAF and Army uniforms have all been made from blue fabrics at various stages in history, so if you are framing a military scene or fighter plane, perhaps a blue moulding would be a great choice.
